Portland Main Street Statistics
Each year, Portland Main Street volunteers work many hours to help keep Portland one of the best small towns in Michigan. Did you know:
- In 2008-2009, Main Street volunteers gave 1,569.5 hours to the revitalization efforts in downtown Portland.
- In 2009-2010, Main Street volunteers gave 1,629 hours to the revitalization efforts in downtown Portland.
- That in 2008-2009, downtown Portland had a net gain of four new businesses.
- In 2009-2010, downtown Portland saw a net gain of three new businesses -- a net GAIN of seven new businesses since 2008!
- In 2008-2009, downtown Portland saw a net creation of 5 new jobs.
- In 2009-2010, downtown Portland saw a net creation of 4 new jobs -- this means nine new jobs have been added since 2008, while retaining those who were previously employed!
- That as of January 2010, downtown Portland has almost a 98% occupancy rate in downtown storefronts.
- Downtown Portland businesses cooperatively employ over 300 people, making it one of the largest employers in the city.
This success is due to the great cooperative nature of downtown business owners, the support of city residents, and the volunteers that give their time and talents to their community.
